A nèu ën à d’össi / La neve non ha ossa nasce da una ricerca etno-linguistica condotta al confine italo-francese, tra la Brigue in Valle Roya e Realdo in valle Argentina. Prima del secondo conflitto mondiale entrambi i territori si trovavano su suolo italiano e vi si parlava il Brigasco (brigašc / brigasque), un dialetto locale, oggi quasi scomparso. L’opera è stata realizzata in stretta collaborazione con A Vaštéra, un’associazione locale per la difesa e la valorizzazione della cultura brigasca che da decenni ha intrapreso una serie di azioni volte a rinsaldare i legami interni a questa comunità divisasi bruscamente nel dopoguerra.
Selezionati alcuni proverbi legati al territorio e, in molti casi, oggi di difficile interpretazione, si è chiesto ad alcuni ragazzini in età scolare, tra i 6 e i 15 anni, di compiere un’azione performativa che consisteva nell’urlarsi questi antichi modi di dire attraverso le montagne, da un lato all’altro del confine. Un’azione giocosa che reca traccia delle incertezze di una lingua loro estranea e delle due lingue madri, l’italiano e il francese. Le voci, amplificate dall’eco, uniscono idealmente i due luoghi cancellando le distanze e mettendo in discussione l’idea stessa di confine, barriera, limite geografico e culturale.

 A nèu ën à d’össi / Snow has no bones stems from ethno-linguistic research conducted on the Italian-French border, between Brigue in the Roya Valley and Realdo in the Argentina Valley. Before the Second World War, both territories were located on Italian soil and spoke Brigasco (brigašc / brigasque), a local dialect that has now almost disappeared. The work was carried out in close collaboration with A Vaštéra, a local association for the defence and promotion of Brigasque culture, which for decades has undertaken a series of actions aimed at strengthening the bonds within this community, which was abruptly divided after the war.
After selecting a number of proverbs linked to the area, many of which are difficult to interpret today, a group of schoolchildren aged between 6 and 15 were asked to perform an action consisting of shouting these ancient sayings across the mountains, from one side of the border to the other. A playful action that bears traces of the uncertainties of a language foreign to them and of their two mother tongues, Italian and French. The voices, amplified by the echo, ideally unite the two places, erasing distances and questioning the very idea of borders, barriers, and geographical and cultural boundaries.
